Pikesville Man Charged with Stealing Car, Bananas

Baltimore County police arrested Robert Franklin Cathers, 50, of Pikesville, on charges that he burglarized Pikesville Automotive—utimately making off with car keys and a couple bananas.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 3:40 a.m. Nov. 25 when the alarm sounded at the business, located at 7021 Reisterstown Road.

An officer arrived and allegedly saw Cathers in a Volkswagen. Cathers ran, and the officer chased him and arrested him, said Lt. Jay Landsman of the Pikesville precinct.

Surveillance video allegedly shows the suspect entering the business, grabbing a handful of keys—and two bananas. He then randomly matched a car with a key, Landsman said.

According to court records, Cathers, of the 800 block of Sturgis Place in Pikesville, was charged with second-degree burglary; theft of $10,000 to $100,000; theft of less than $100; malicious destruction of property, value $500, and two counts of fourth-degree burglary.

He was released on bond Nov. 27 from the Baltimore County Detention Center, court records state.
