Homicide Victim’s Friends Mourn on Facebook

Friends of Katie Hadel, the woman who was killed in Owings Mills Tuesday night, have been expressing their condolences on her Facebook page.

Katie Hadel has been described as “gorgeous,” “great” and a “beautiful spirit” by her Facebook friends.

Since her death on Tuesday night, friends have posted memories and condolences on Hadel’s Facebook wall. Hadel was stabbed Tuesday night in her Owings Mills apartment, and pronounced dead at the scene.

“The universe lost a beautiful spirit with your passing. It was too soon. I will never forget the kindness you showed as one of the first people I met when I moved to MD in middle school,” wrote Heather Hahn. “As silly as it sounds, I never used a locker before and you took the time to show me how it worked. Always looking out to lend a hand. Deepest sympathies go out to your family during his dark time.”

Many friends posted about Katie’s daughter.

“So sad. I am praying for your little girl and the rest of your family,” wrote Sara Teter Valentin.

According to a post written by Michael Milne, a memorial fund is being established.

The man charged with first-degree murder in her death, Jeff Shiflett, also has a Facebook full of posts related to the incident. Both he and Hadel graduated from Franklin High School.

He posted an angry status update laden with curse words on Jan. 29 directed at someone he refers to as “that special person in my life.”

Matt Myerberg posted question marks on Shiflett’s wall, which was commented on by Jessie Reamer, who said “He’s gone dude, he f***in killed Katie.”

Sarah Catherine Myers posted on his wall that she hated him in high school and couldn’t understand why he requested her as a friend on Facebook.

“You are a sick loser and a coward,” she wrote. “You stole a mom, a daughter, a sister.”
