Man Struck, Killed, by MTA Subway Train at Milford Mill Station

MTA Police: Apparent suicide occurred at about 11 a.m.; police are still investigating.

UPDATE (10:16 a.m. April 11)—One man was hit by an Maryland Transit Administration subway trian Sunday morning in "an apparent suicide," said Capt. Robert Rosendale of the MTA Police.

The station reopened Sunday evening, said Terry Owens, director of MTA media relations.

"At about 11:04 this morning, we had a report of an individual struck by a train at the Milford Mill Station. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. And the incident is under investigation," Owens said Sunday.

Owens confirmed that it "appears to be" a suicide.

The station, located off of Milford Mill Road in Pikesville, is a Metro Subway System train that runs both above-ground and underground, he said.

The victim, who had been on the platform, was hit by the front of the train that was eastbound, Owens said. People who are on the platform are assumed to have a ticket, he said.

Owens said he did not know yet if there were any witnesses to the victim's death. However, "I would assume it was the operator who reported it," he said.

Early this afternoon, passengers are being turned away at the entrance, but MTA buses are transporting passengers to and from their next stop.

At the scene were the MTA Police, including its MTA command center, and Baltimore County Police, including its forensics unit. As of 1 p.m. the state Medical Examiner's Office was on the way.

Meanwhile, the station is closed to incoming and outgoing passengers. Police crime scene tape is strung across the front entrance, and police guard the entrance.

"We are single-tracking around this station," Owens said. "So, our trains are not going through, they are just not stopping here." Passengers are being transported to their next stop by buses.

Editor's Note: On Monday, April 11, the state Medical Examiner's Office ruled this death a suicide, according to the MTA.
