Gwynn Oak Man Charged in Shooting Near SSA

A Social Security Administration employee was injured in a lunchtime shooting Monday near the campus.

Baltimore County police said they have arrested Gary Stokes Jr., of the 6700 block of Richardson Road, Gwynn Oak, and charged him with attempted first-degree murder and other crimes in connection with the Monday shooting of a Social Security Administration employee in Woodlawn.

Stokes was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, according to the police. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

On Monday, police said a Social Security Administration employee on a lunch break was injured just before noon in a shooting at Walden Circle, away from the SSA headquarters campus.

After the shooting, Stokes allegedly ran down Woodlawn Drive and the victim walked to Woodlawn Drive and Parallel Road, where he collapsed, police said.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Sinai Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The SSA was locked down Monday while police investigated the incident. The lockdown was lifted at 2 p.m.
