Jeff Gahler will run for Harford County Sheriff in 2014.

Gahler, a Maryland State Trooper, ran for sheriff in 2010 but .

In his letter release just before midnight Monday, Gahler said: "Although we did not achieve our goal during the 2010 election year, I would not have traded the experience of meeting and listening to so many concerned Harford County residents and business owners or challenging the status quo for anything and I look forward to expanding these efforts in the future."

The Republican lost by a 3,000-vote margin—51.6 percent to 48.3 percent—in one of the latest-decided Harford County races in the election.

He didn't rule out running again in 2014 when asked by Patch the night of the 2010 election.

"Certainly it will be something I look at," Gahler said. "We already have plans to store all the materials, the signs, with that as a possibility. So we will move forward on that plan to stay actively involved in the Harford County community and the Republican party."

Sorry, but I think it's a little premature to announce any election plans, and also, Mr. Gahler's role in his police agency certainly hasn't trained him to be the sheriff. He and Roger Sheets should give up gracefully.

Hazard and Emily, you make an interesting point on timing. Any personal ideas on why that is?
Dan Thompson June 06, 2012 at 05:03 PM
I do not have a "personal idea" on the timing, but I know Mr. Gahler's reason from his interview on another online news site. He waited until concluding his career with the State Police before making an official announcement concerning 2014.

Kristen - Given that you are an Aegis alumn, what is your relationship with Jesse Bane? The Aegis rarely, if at all, ever questioned Bane's questionable leadership. They basically gave Bane a free pass on the Mark Forwood and Fred Visnaw issues.

Ed Jr., I spoke with both candidates during the last election. I feel I have a good working relationship with both individuals. If you have specific questions for me to ask, either Bane or someone else, don't hesitate to shoot me an email. I want to be sure to seek answers for whatever questions you may have.
