CRIME: Man Allegedly Sets Fire to His Own Apartment; Women Fight at Shoppers

Baltimore County Police in Pikesville's Precinct 4 answered numerous calls for burglaries, one arson, as well as several assaults and more.

Baltimore County police initiated a warrant for first-degree arson for a Pikesville man after he allegedly set his own apartment on fire and injured himself.

At about 2 a.m. on May 7, police and firefighters went to an apartment in the 4400 block of Old Court Road after the resident there had called his mother and said he wanted to harm himself, according to a police report. When they arrived, the apartment was on fire.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish it. The man was found nearby, unresponsive and with self-inflicted injuries, near Old Court Road and the I-695 bridge, the report states.

He was transported to Northwest Hospital in Randallstown.

Bonnie Ridge

6800 block of Bonnie Ridge Drive. Between 2:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. May 6. A burglar broke the glass of a back sliding door, ransacked the house and is believed to have left through the front door because it was unlocked when the resident got home. No items were missing. 

Gwynn Oak

5900 block of Liberty Road. Between 8 a.m. April 28 and 11:05 a.m. May 5. A burglar entered a cellular telephone tower area and took some copper ground plates. The police reports list three cellular telephone companies as the victims of the crime.

Lochearn

6900 block of Brookmill Road. Between 1 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. May 7. A basketball goal, a kiddie pool, three tricycles and various sports balls were stolen from a backyard.

Pikesville

4000 block of Old Court Road. Between Nov. 1, 2010 and 3 p.m. May 8. On May 9, police arrested Thomas Edward Anthony Jr., 54. They charged him with first-degree burglary after an apartment resident discovered that a burglary had occurred at her apartment. According to the report, "this incident is related to [another incident]" where Anthony was identified and charged on Dec. 18. The victim reported that a gold necklace with diamonds, a gold ring and gold pocketwatch were stolen from her apartment while she was on vacation. According to the report, there was no forced entry. 

700 block of Cloudyfold Drive. 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 5. A burglar got into the house and stole bank statements, three gold and silver necklaces, a Maryland driver's license and a red bathroom set.

4600 Debilin Court. Between 11 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. May 7. Someone tried to kick in the front door of an apartment, bending the door. The burglar did not get in.

20 Stockmill Road. Between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. May 6. A burglar entered an apartment and stole a purple iPod Nano and some clothes.

2400 block of Hunt Drive. 8:02 p.m. April 30. A woman yelled at her neighbor, pointed a long rifle at him and told him to move his vehicle out of her driveway. First-degree assault charges are pending, according to a police report.

2801 Smith Ave., Shoppers Food. Around 5 p.m. May 3. A bumped shopping cart at Shoppers Food led to an assault in the aisles of the Smith Avenue food store. After one woman bumped her cart into another woman's cart, the second woman began shouting "racial and religious terms" at the other woman, according to a police report. The shouting woman then began pushing and punching the other woman in the face before walking out of the store.

Windsor Mill

6901 Security Blvd., at carnival outside. 10:30 p.m. April 30. Three women approached another woman and called her vulgar names and punched her. One stole the victim's purse and ran. The victim identified the women because they went to the same high school, Western Tech, according to a police report. In addition to the purse, the women stole an iPod Nano 16, a black cell phone and an iPod Touch.  The victim had a bruised right palm and scratched left knee.
