Bicyclist Melvin Pachino Struck by Car, Seriously Injured

A man was flown to Shock Trauma after a driver making a left turn struck him, according to police.

A Pikesville bicyclist was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore after he was struck by a car Friday morning.

Police say that at 11:07 a.m., Melvin Pachino, 52, a pharmacist and resident of the 2700 block of Waco Court, was headed west on Smith Avenue when a driver, identified as Shunji Watanabe of the 7600 block of Carla Road, was turning left from eastbound Smith Avenue and struck Pachino at Carla Road.

Pachino suffered "potentially life threatening injuries," states the police news release, which said that officers continue to investigate the incident and that charges are pending.
