Police Charge Pikesville Man in Attack with Hammer

The suspect was charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the Sept. 26 attack at Eleven Slade apartments.

Baltimore County police said they have charged a Pikesville man in connection with a hammer attack of an elderly resident last month at Eleven Slade apartments.

Police charged Alveate Jerome Wallace, 21, in a warrant with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and assault, said Lt. Jay Landsman of the Baltimore County Police Department.

According to a news release he was charged with first- and second-degree assault as well as theft under $100 and using a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.

Wallace is in jail in Baltimore City on charges unrelated to the Eleven Slade attack, Landsman said. Wallace's last-known address was the 700 block of Silver Creek in Pikesville.

An investigation, including a county police interview with Wallace, linked Wallace to the crime, said Landsman, of the Pikesville precinct.

"(Wallace) was already incarcerated in Baltimore City" when county police interviewed him, Landsman said. "When he is done with his charges in Baltimore City, he will be taken to the county for a bail hearing regarding Eleven Slade."

At 7:56 p.m. Sept. 26, a man armed with a hammer came up to an 80-year-old apartment resident in a stairwell, police said. The man then beat the resident on the head and arm and stole his keys, according to police.

The victim was taken to Sinai Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hospital spokesman Noel Lloyd said on Sept. 28 that the victim was being evaluated. On Friday morning, Lloyd said the man had been treated and discharged.
