MTA National Night Out in Upton

The Maryland Transit Administration and the Upton community in Baltimore will celebrate with an event Tuesday night.

CommUNITY Night Out will promote neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships in the fight against crime, according to an MTA news release.

"MTA Police work with communities across the region to fight for safer neighborhoods and increase drug-prevention awareness. Officers will talk with residents and distribute free child-identification kits to parents," the release states.

Col. John E. Garilis, MTA chief of police, said "The MTA Police Force is pleased to join the communities we serve during the National Night Out event. Our participation over the past five years continues to strengthen our commitment and partnership with those communities."

MTA Police encourage all residents to get involved, whether it's participating in a block party or neighborhood party, or simply turning on uour porch light and coming outside to visit with neighbors.

The MTA Police will also hold an event in Park Heights Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Pimlico Race Course, at Park Heights and Belvedere avenues.
