Se’udah,*
Havdalah and Hear/Say Together

Saturday, December 28 at 5 pm  Join us
for our se'udah shlisheet (third meal of Shabbat) and Havdalah ritual to bid
farewell to Shabbat.  Prepare for a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn more
about the people you see at services and in the halls of Kesher School.

Please bring a pareve/dairy dish (serving 8 people) and a
drink to share.

*The word se'udah derives from the verb sa’ad,
meaning sustain, or support [Genesis 18:5; Psalms 104:5].  By inviting guests,
bringing in the poor and the lonely, and sharing wisdom as well as food, one
turns a meal into a se'udah and binds a group of individual diners into a
community.  A se’udah is held to mark every Jewish life cycle event – birth,
coming of age, marriage, and the passing of a life – and it’s testimony to the
sacred status of the Sabbath day that a special meal called a "se’udah
shlishith/third festive meal" is held near the end of Shabbat, before the ritual
of Havdalah.
