Fields Building Is Sold, Items To Be Auctioned Online

The building that recently held the historic Fields of Pikesville building has been sold, according to an announcement on Alex Cooper auctioneers' website.

The building was auctioned Friday, although the auction price will not be available until it's closed, the site states. Diner equipment, inventory and store displays—more than 200—will be auctioned online Tuesday, according the website.

Who bought the building is not yet available.

The next auction will take place live on Bidspotter.com, beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Proxy bids are being accepted at the auction site.

The longtime Pikesville institution closed after Labor Day last summer, after suffering diminishing sales, began as a soda fountain and pharmacy in 1892.

Most recently it was known for two things: its cafe and makeup counter that included difficult-to-find cosmetics.

Pharmacist Norman Levin took over in 1946. His son, Jeff Levin was the last to run the store, but without a pharmacy.

If you'd like a nostalgic time, browse through the items online, which include a vintage snowball machine, the white and blue diner chairs from 1979, and even the kitchen sink.

Some of the left-over inventory from the store is also being auctioned, including Ty Beanie Babies and hosiery.

There are vintage pharmacy scales, a Victorian metal and glass hanging apothecary sign, mortars and pestles, a postage machine and the neon hanging window sign, 'Cafe Fields.'
