Lots of Laughs in 'God of Carnage' at Everyman

'God of Carnage' evokes lots of laughs at Everyman Theatre.

There's a lot of history in the building located at 315 West Fayette Street, at the corner of Eutaw.

Built in 1911 it originally housed vaudeville and was known as The Empire. In 1947 it re-opened as a movie house and was know as the Town Theatre. Now it is the new home of Everyman Theatre, which was founded in 1990.

It is currently playing the second production at the new site, the Baltimore premiere of the comedy God of Carnage. The show ran on Broadway from March 2009 to February 2010 with a cast that included Hope Davis and James Gandolfini (who played Tony Soprano in The Sopranos).

It was made into a film in 2011 with Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet and directed by Roman Polanski.

In my most humble opinion, this is one funny play. It runs for about 90 minutes without an intermission. There are only four people in the cast and all perform their roles admirably.

It deals with two high-strung couples who meet one night after their sons were involved in a schoolyard altercation.

It was to be all so civilized. That lasted about 20 minutes.

It is extremely entertaining to watch these people battle about social mores, parenting, kids, marriage, cell phone use and a hamster. I can definitely recommend this one. Also, it's great to be in the audience in the new Everyman Theatre.

Single tickets range from $10 to $60. You can even have a meal from the Charm City Gourmet truck parked outside for most performances. Then take the food inside and wander up to the mezzanine to enjoy it.

Parking, with a voucher which you can get at the box office, is six bucks in the lot across the street.
