A Locust Point Treat, by Eddie Applefeld

Find contemporary American, upscale dining in Locust Point and Hampden, Baltimore.

One of the fast-growing neighborhoods in the city is Locust Point.  For years it was the home of basically very little.  Of course you'd have to travel along Fort Avenue to get to Fort McHenry but that was about it.  Not anymore.

Today it is the home of the new cruise terminal, housing developments, that means upscale condos, shopping and fine restaurants.  One of those restaurants is Silo Point 5% Wine Bar.  It is located on the ground level of the snazzy Silo Point highrise.  A much sought-after home for many people wanting a city experience without actually being in the heart of the city.

The restaurant is open for dinner only Monday through Saturday.  They'd be happy to have your business at any time, but if you're planning a weekend visit, I'd suggest a reservation.

It is best described I think as upscale casual.  More casual attire would be suitable in the summer.  Seating on two levels is for about 120.

One feature you can't miss is the view.  The restaurant is surrounded by windows that provide good vistas of the water, Fells Point and Canton.

The food is best described as contemporary American.  For examples, the night I was there the specials included filet iron steak, free range organic chicken, pork chops and the catch of the day.  They try for from farm to table whenever possible.  By the way, I'd suggest the flourless chocolate cake for dessert.  It takes like more.

Since winebar is in the name, it would be reasonable to expect many varieties of wine.  You wouldn't be disappointed,  There are about 60 wines by the glass and about 100 available for purchase.   I had a red, don't ask me what it was.  I asked the server to suggest one.  No complaints.

Incidentally, there is another restaurant to enjoy in this family.  It's on 36th Street in Hampden and called 13.5% Wine bar.
