A Comedy at Everyman Theatre

A very funny play 'August: Osage County' closes Everyman Theatre's Charles Street location. The theatre soon moves to West Fayette St.

Everyman Theatre, 1727 North Charles Street, was founded by Vincent Lancisi in 1990. Today Vincent serves as the artistic director and can be seen most nights addressing the audience before the show.

These days, besides telling them a little about the play, he is most anxious to inform the theatre goers that starting in January the theatre will be moving to their new home at 315 West Fayette Street.

Beginning January 14, 2013 there will be celebrations all week. Two of those celebrations will be the Inaugural Opening Night and the Grand Opening Gala. I am told the new theatre will be filled with the latest in technology and comforts for the patrons.

The opening show will be the Baltimore premiere of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play August: Osage County.

Currently playing at the Charles Street location, the final play there, is Heroes, translated from a French novel by Tony Award winning playwright Tom Stoppard.  It's set at a military retirement home in the French countryside.

The year is 1959. Three aging World War I veterans spend most of their days on the terrace passing the time daydreaming, arguing, irritating one another and making reference to a stone dog, who also occupies the terrace.

This is a very humorous play that I thoroughly enjoyed and it certainly seemed as if the audience did. Lancisi said, 'It's the perfect last show on Charles Street.' One reason the show is so good, besides the fine writing, is the cast, three veterans of many many shows at Center Stage and other theatres.

Single tickets prices range from $10-$50. Performances are Wednesday through Sunday with two shows Saturday and Sunday. There is parking along Charles Street or in the garage across the street. Running time is about one hour and 45 minutes.
