Your Fitness 'Quick Tip of the Week:' Don't Get Caught Eating Your Results

When it comes to losing weight... forget your workout. Eat with "EXERCISE AMNESIA!"

Your Quick Fit Tip of the week: When trying to drop some pounds, eat the same way on the days you exercise - as on the days you DON’T (don’t make the mistake of eating your results)!! This one will make all the difference in the world.

For Example: Let's say it's Monday and you missed your workout. You have been very diligent with your food intake however and you've only eaten your "allotted calorie amount" for the day. After all, you really MUST be careful. I mean, you missed your workout so you didn’t burn any extra calories that might have helped to off set those few bites of Chocolate Almond Bark you have stashed in the pantry for a rainy day.

Even though it keeps calling your name - YOU RESIST. Knowing you don't have any "workout calories banked," you walk away proud. This is how most of us think.

Then Tuesday comes and you get to the gym and KILL IT! Now you think... “Surely I can eat more today. Maybe I'll stop by for a Frappachino and a scone on my way home. I mean TODAY... I burned a ton of calories… even the machine said so. Surely today's workout will pay for my treat" ... and that's mistake number one. Believing the “estimated” caloric expenditures that many cardio machines spit out is a BAD IDEA!

I’ve had machines give me a hearty 295 calories burned over what my personalized Heart Rate Monitor calculates… and my Heart Rate Monitor is accurate! OVER ESTIMATING calories burned often equals UNDER ESTIMATING calories eaten afterward. When losing weight, you can't adjust your diet to reflect whether or not you were able to fit your workout into your already busy day. Consistency is key. If you play this dangerous game, trust me... YOU'LL EVENTUALLY END UP EATING YOUR RESULTS! SO, if you burned a few, let them work for you… and eat the same as if you hadn’t worked out at all. Then you’ll lose weight, maintain your motivation and achieve your weight loss goals. When one changes their caloric intake to make up for what they’ve burned… WELL THAT’S WHAT WE CALL WEIGHT MAINTENANCE, NOT LOSS!! So,  when trying to lose weight... eat with "EXERCISE AMNESIA!"
