GBMC HealthCare Recognized for Green Efforts

GBMC HealthCare System was recently honored with three awards for its achievements in environmental sustainability.

GBMC HealthCare System was selected again as winners of Practice Greenhealth’s 2014 Emerald Partner for Change Award and with the organization’s first Circle of Excellence Award for environmental preferable purchasing.  The Greenhealth Partner for Change Award recognizes healthcare facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs.  The Circles of Excellence are determined by the highest scoring facilities in each category of the Greenhealth Partner for Change Award—based on the Practice Greenhealth’s thorough scoring and evaluation criteria in certain categories which includes leadership and “greening the OR.”

Additionally, Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (MD H2E) named GBMC HealthCare System as a winner of its annual Trailblazer Award in recognition of its work to better manage energy at the hospital and improve operational efficiencies.

Practice Greenhealth is our nation’s leading membership and networking organization for members in the healthcare community that have made a commitment to sustainable, environmentally preferable practices.

MD H2E presents the awards each year to Maryland hospitals that have shown leadership in advancing sustainability in a particular area (or areas) of their operations.
