Visions for Vacancies: Fields Building To Be Sold

The 120-year-old mainstay business will close its doors soon, and the building is being sold. Who should buy it and what kind of business would do well there?

We're losing our beloved Fields of Pikesville store after it's been in business for 120 years.

There may be nothing that can replace that in our hearts and our community history.

However, we're going to have to get used to thinking of something else taking its place.

What would be the best replacement for Fields of Pikesville? A newly renovated office building? Another mattress store? Dave & Busters? ? A shoe store? Clothing store? With the loss of Fields (and after the previous loss of the Backfin) there is no good place to eat and good a good solid meal at a good price. Jilly's is ok, if you want a bar atmosphere. And S&H isn't what it once was. I would love to see a decent restaurant in there. More importantly I hope that the building will not be torn down and ideally that it be granted historic status.

All the old houses behind the Fields building disappeared several years ago,to make way for the New Giant store....I thought Walker Ave. could have made a great Antique Row, in Pikesville. Maybe an Antique Mall would be a fitting tribute, with the Fields Store Signs hanging on the walls....Maybe the lunch room could remain open...
