Staples Debuts New Store in Pikesville Shopping Center

Pikesville Chamber: Store opening was delayed this month while a sprinkler system was installed. Walgreens is to be constructed at the previous Staples location.

Staples office supply store opens today, March 31, at its new location in the Pikesville Shopping Center.

The opening is a few weeks later than anticipated because the store needed time to install a sprinkler system, said Sherrie Becker, executive director for the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce.

"The delay was ... to put a sprinkler system in the new Staples, and they had to dig up some of the street," Becker said.

Meanwhile, Walgreens—which owns the property occupied by the previous Staples at the corner of Reisterstown and Old Court roads—plans to open a Walgreens Pharmacy at that location by January or February, Becker said.

"We're working with Walgreens to come up with some sort of groundbreaking for the new building," she added.

The new Walgreens will follow the same footprint as other Walgreens properties, she said, including a drive-through pharmacy.

Walgreens also plans to re-clad the building in brick, and will redo the plantings and parking lot, Becker said. It will look like a two-story building.
