Pikesville Baby Wins $3K at Birth Sunday

Sinai Hospital: Baby Girl Segal wins savings bond for being the first baby born the day of the AFC Championship game.

A Pikesville baby was born a winner Sunday.

Baby Girl Segal was born at 10:41 p.m., the day of the Ravens vs. Patriots AFC Championship game.

While the Ravens lost, she won because she was the first born that day at the BirthPlace at Sinai. For that distinction, the hospital awarded her a $3,000 savings bond, according to a news release from the hospital.

“I certainly wasn’t anticipating winning an award while my wife was in labor yesterday,” Gershom Segal said in the news release. “However, now that our daughter is here, it’s a wonderful surprise."

The Segals found out about the contest last week. They've delivered each of their five children at Sinai, the release states.

Sinai had offered a $1,000 savings bond to the first baby born during the AFC Playoffs game between the Ravens and the Texans, but in an unusual occurrence, no babies were born during that time.

So, the hospital added the $1,000 to the championship game award, according to Holly Hosler, Sinai spokeswoman.

The BirthPlace at Sinai is the birthing hospital that is closest to Pikesville, Hosler said.

Sinai Hospital is a part of LifeBridge Health, a health services provider in northwest Baltimore. It includes , Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital,
