Penn Camera Files Bankruptcy, Closes Pikesville Store

On Wednesday, the windows at Penn Camera were covered with paper and there was a note explaining that the store at the Festival at Woodholme had closed.

The Penn Camera store in Pikesville is closed along with several other locations in the Baltimore-Washington region, according to the Penn Camera website. In addition to the Pikesville store, one in Laurel was also closed.

On Wednesday, the windows at were papered over and there was a notice on the door.

"This location is no longer open for business. Please direct any questions to sales@penncamera.com," the notice stated. It also lists the phone number: 301-210-7366, Ext. 100.

A message posted on the Penn Camera Exchange Inc. website states that the company announced Wednesday it has filed on Jan. 4 for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

"A dramatic decline in sales performance during the preceding holiday period has precipitated this action," the announcement states.

A clearance sale will be held at Penn Camera's E Street, Rockville and Tysons locations, it states. That clearance sale may not begin until Jan. 9, when the stock from the closed stores arrives at the remaining stores, according to the the announcement.

Customers who have repairs or other items at the Pikesville store can pick up their items at the Rockville store, 1226-F Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD, 20852.

That store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the message.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the photographic needs of this community for nearly sixty years," the message states. "We extend our deepest gratitude to our many employees and wish for them a smooth transition."
