New Class Offers Mix of Yogic and Jewish Philosophies

Pikesville's newest yoga studio has combined the best of Pikesville into one class, taught by Edith Brotman.

Charm City Yoga has a new course designed especially for the Pikesville community, and the chain's newest studio, owner Chris Blades said.

The course is called Mussar, and "it combines yogic philosophy and Jewish philosophy," he said.

"We're holding a special workshop for the community here," Blades said this week.

Instructor Edith Brotman has developed the Charm City Yoga course that meets each Sunday evening for six weeks, he said.

The next class begins March 18 and ends April 29, and is held from 8-9:30 p.m., according to the studio website. Another session begins on May 13.

The course costs $90 for the six week session.

"Mussar is a traditional Jewish form of self-study that shares a lot in common with the yogic practice of svadhyaya," the course description states.

"The program involves discussion and sharing, and can incorporate the use of mantras, journaling, meditation and yoga," it states.

The Pikesville studio opened March 5 and is Charm City Yoga's fifth studio.

The studio is located at 1777 Reisterstown Road, Ste. 210A, in the Commerce Center, Pikesville.

Many of Charm City's experienced instructors are already residents of the Pikesville area, so having a studio here was a natural progression, Blades said.

If you're still new to yoga, the Pikesville studio also offers beginners classes on five consecutive Saturday mornings, and costs $65, he said.
