Former Jewish Times Publisher Moves into New Industry

The Owings Mills paper was sold in 2012, and former publisher Andrew Alter Buerger has moved on to a completely different industry.

Following the bankruptcy and sale of the family business, former Baltimore Jewish Times publisher Andrew Alter Buerger has started anew.

Baltimore Magazine has a feature on Buerger, who now spends his time with his wife Jennifer on something less readable, more drinkable.

Since 2010, the couple has produced B'More Organic smoothies, which the Buergers have bottled since 2010. The couple gets milk from an Amish dairy farm in Pennsylvania to use in the Icelandic-style yogurt in its drinks.

After losing a financial dispute with its printer, the Jewish Times was sold at bankruptcy auction in 2012 to the owner of Washington Jewish Week. Buerger's relatives had run the paper since its founding in 1919.

Also in the most recent issue of Baltimore Magazine, Patch's Bryan Sears was named best county reporter in the magazine's annual Best of Baltimore feature.

Clarification: The Buergers do not own the farm in Pennsylvania where the milk is produced. Patch regrets the error.
