Ed Norris to Headline Pikesville Chamber of Commerce Lunch

Former State Police superintendent, now a radio show host, will speak March 16 at Jilly's. Other chamber events set for this year include the annual "Business and Community Recognition Awards Breakfast," and "Miles that Matter Pikesville 5K Run/Walk."

Ed Norris, the Baltimore City police commissioner who became a Baltimore sports- and talk-radio show host, will share information on sports, current events and terrorism during a event March 16.

"Lunch with Ed Norris" will be held at 11:30 a.m. at, 1012 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville.

The last time Norris spoke before the chamber, he was superintendent of the Maryland State Police, headquartered here in Pikesville, said chamber Executive Director Sherrie Becker.

"He was under fire then," Becker said of Norris.

Now, years later and after many life events, he's back. "We will (probably) see a totally different person this time," she said.

According to an Aug. 16, 2005 article in the Baltimore Sun, Norris spent six months in prison, six months on home detention, and performed 500 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty "to federal public corruption and tax charges stemming from his reign as Baltimore's police chief ... ."

Norris has said he wants to move on from that part of his life—and he has. The Sun article was written the day after his first day back in Baltimore—and in his new gig as a radio talk show host.

The cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

To attend the lunch, RSVP by March 9 to the chamber at 410-484-2337. Cash, check, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Run for funds

Also on the chamber's calendar is the "Miles That Matter Pikesville 5K Run/Walk" set for 8 a.m., Sunday, July 10, in front of 1829 Reisterstown Road, next to Barnes & Noble, in Pikesville.

This is a fundraiser to support the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, and the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce.

The run/walk is expected to draw a crowd of more than 1,ooo runners and walkers from throughout the Baltimore area, and sponsoring the event means positive exposure for companies.

Sponsorships are available, including the "Presenting Sponsor" level of $5,000, the premier, one-of-a-kind sponsorship. The sponsor's company name and logo will be featured on all printed materials, including the race website, fliers, brochures and posters. The logo will be prominently displayed on the front of the race shirts—and you know those will be worn for years in fitness clubs in the area.

Other sponsorships are available as well, at the $2,500, $1,000, $500 and $250 levels.

There are other ways to be involved in this beneficial, energetic community event. The chamber needs the following:

  • Breakfast foods for the after-race breakfast. Items needed include bagels, cream cheese, eggs, muffins, fruit and more.
  • Prizes for a drawing: A drawing will be held for all runners. The chamber is looking for prizes and/or gift certificates.
  • Volunteers—60 of them—to help support the race.

If you can help, please call the chamber at 410-484-2337. For more information, visit the race website at www.pikesville5k.com
