BITES NEARBY: Panera Bread

This is one of the most frequented meeting places in Pikesville. Panera is known for its fresh-baked breads, including bagels; soup in a bread bowl, hot sandwiches and soups, including chicken noodle and french onion.

PANERA BREAD

Overview:  Hot sandwiches, soup and crisp specialty salads, along with a bakery and coffee bar. This is truly one of Pikesville's best meeting places, and a nice place to bring the kids after school to catch up on some homework, and munch on a fresh bagel or soup in a breadbowl.

Decor:  The kitchen and bakery are the brightest, compared to the mellow, low-lighted dining area. Ambient lighting glows orange, accented by matte gold shutters, for a retro-1960-70s feel. There are comfortable stuffed-vinyl seat cushions on the hard-back wooden chairs. In addition to numerous seating arrangements for small groups of people, there are two family-style tables that seat eight to 10 people.

The Drinks: A wide selection, from caffe mochas ($3.09), four different kinds of coffee or more ($1.09 to $1.39), hot chocolate with whipped cream, soda (Pepsi) and iced tea—both sweetened and unsweetened.

Menu: Breakfast sandwiches, bagels with flavored cream cheeses ($2.05), sandwiches including the Frontega Chicken sandwich — a pulled-chicken panini with cheese, onions and tomatoes. And rotating collection of soups, including black bean and chili and a creamy tomato. Their salads are large and delicious, including the Chicken Cobb, the Fuji apple chicken, and the bbq chopped chicken.
