Author Discusses 'The End of Country'; Bookstore Plans More Book Signings

When a company wants to pay good money to lease a farmer's property to mine for natural gas, it spurs moral and ethical questions.

In The End of Country, author Seamus McGraw tells the stories of Pennsylvanians who must decide whether to accept riches in exchange for possibly ruining their land and water supply.

According to publisher Random House Inc.'s website, "Along the way, McGraw introduces us to a host of colorful characters, from a gas company land agent with a Green Beret to a wizened quarryman with an old coonhound, a .22 rifle, and an unerring sense of right and wrong who leads a personal crusade to police the gas company’s operations."

Tuesday, McGraw visited where he signed copies of his book, and spoke to a group of fans.

About 10 signed copies are still available at the store's customer service desk, according to a staff member.

Three more authors are slated to visit the Pikesville store this fall:

• 1 p.m. Sept. 24—Pam Reaves, author of Is It Love ... or Merely a Sick Attachment?
• 7 p.m. Oct. 19—Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, author of All Wound Up: The Yarn Harlot Writes for a Spin.
• 2 p.m. Oct. 22—Jen Yates, author of Wreck the Halls: Cake Wrecks Gets 'Festive.'
