A Pikesville Businesswoman's Journey from Junk to Jewels

It's looks so easy on those television shows—finding a old, unloved piece of furniture, sprucing it up during a series of montages and then, voila, that moldy piece of driftwood is suddenly a funky end table.

But it's rarely that simple.  

A Journey From Junk owner Kelli Myers, however, has been fixing up old furniture for years. On Friday she'll be celebrating the opening of her newest store: A Journey From Junk, A Home Decor Boutique.

The first floor of the boutique, next to Hi Ho Silver in Tongue Row, will sell repurposed and vintage furniture as well as art and other home goods.

On the second floor (3736 Old Columbia Pike), will be one of the more unique spaces in the Historic District—a furniture workshop where you can learn to paint, antique, repurpose and just generally improve the quality of old furniture and decorative items.

Myers, a Pikesville resident, said she's especially excited about becoming an authorized seller of Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan. "We got our first order in less than a month ago and we already need to re-order," she said, sitting in the Tongue Row courtyard behind the new boutique. 

Myers and store manager Tanya Crouse were painting furniture in advance of Friday's grand opening.

Journey from Junk began as a home decor store five years ago, Myers said. Then the store began carrying small gifts, resale and new clothes, candles and sassy signs (think: "Behind every man there's a woman rolling her eyes").

"Everybody knows us for those signs," Myers said. "They were covering the furniture—nobody knew that was for sale anymore."  

Now the furniture will have a showroom of its own. 

A Journey From Junk, A Home Decor Boutique is having a grand opening party on Friday, March 22, 5 - 8 p.m. Expect music, champagne and furniture.

And the original store, at 8247 Main Street, will celebrate its 5-year anniversary on Saturday.
