The Baltimore County Council wanted an update on the recent offered to county employees and they got it.
But the email sent to council members prior to County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's budget speech Thursday was not exactly what Council Chairwoman Vicki Almond had in mind.
"We wanted someone to come talk to us," said Almond, adding that the council might have questions about the results of the program.
County officials hoped the incentive plan, passed last fall, would save as much as $15 million annually through the elimination of 200 positions.
Kamenetz announced that the program had exceeded those goals. More than 300 employees were approved for early retirement at an annual savings of $21 million, according to Kamenetz.
Almond said she learned of the results of the program in an email from Don Mohler, a spokesman and chief of staff to Kamenetz.
I hope there is more to this story than what can be perceived as the County Executive's lack of willingness to work with the voters (via the Council). If the County Executive does not have the confidence and command of his position, as suggested by several recent interactions with the public and the public's representatives, then he should be ashamed. If the County Executive doesn't have willingness, he has zero potential to lead. Snubbing the Council is snubbing the people. If this does not stop, he will not only be greater in debt to the Council, but the people will demand an explanation as well. The storm is brewing.
seriously approached ..
This man (Kamenetz) can't be trusted! The mere arrogance alone that he portrays in dodging the media, the public, and the county council is unheard of and unprecedented.
Emma, Kevin Kamenetz will be appearing on WBAL TV Sunday morning April 27 to answer questions from the public. I don't know if he gets to see the questions to be asked in advance or not though.
