The Beth Tfiloh Community Theatre Presents: 'The 39 Steps'

The Beth Tfiloh Community Theatre presents the Broadway hit "The 39 Steps," on Dec. 13th & 18th at 7 pm, and Dec. 16th at 2 pm in the H. Morton Rosen Arts Center, 3300 Old Court Rd., Pikesville, MD.

The Beth Tfiloh Community Theatre presents the Baltimore premiere of the hilarious, suspenseful Broadway hit, The 39 Steps on December 13th & 18th at 7:00 p.m.

A matinee performance will be held on December 16th at 2 p.m. in the H. Morton Rosen Arts Center, located at 3300 Old Court Road in Pikesville, Maryland.

After a highly successful run of Urinetown: the Musical, the BTCT will expand its bill with a winter comedy to kickoff its fifth season. The adventure features four actors playing over 50 characters in what The New York Times called an “ether of escapism,” and “absurdly enjoyable.” Award-winning director Diane Smith orchestrates the uproarious, family-friendly action. Audiences will marvel at the elaborate illusions and advanced technical accomplishments packed into Alfred Hitchcock’sclassic thriller.

Parodying Hitchcock’s 1935 film of the same name, "The 39 Steps" follows the dapper Englishman, Richard Hannay (Paul Margolis), after he inadvertently becomes involved in a thrilling conspiracy. As Richard seeks to clear his name of murder, he is chased across London, accompanied by the glamorous Pamela (Lisa Ferentz) and a wild cast of characters played by two ‘Clowns’. Native Baltimore actors and Beth Tfiloh alums Zak Ferentz '08 and Evan Margolis '08 have taken on the challenge of playing nearly 20 characters each, sometimes three in a single scene. “The 39 Steps calls for every trick in the book," comments Margolis. "Sometimes it's dramatic, and sometimes it’s total slapstick. It’s a blast!”

Winner of the 2007 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, and nominated for four Tony’s, including Best Play, "The 39 Steps" has been a standard in farcical theater since its opening in 2005. Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the book by John Buchan and the film by Alfred Hitchcock, "The 39 Steps" is sure to delight audiences with gripping mysteries, clever gimmicks, and a touching love story.
