Teacher honored

On Wednesday, Jan. 12, the foundation that hands out the national award known as "The Oscars of Teaching," visited our own Woodholme Elementary School to bestow the title of "Milken Educator" on McKinley Broome, 27, a fourth-grade teacher.

Several VIPs from the state Department of Education, Baltimore County Schools, and the Milken Family Foundation of Santa Monica, Calif., attended the ceremony that was a surprise for Broome.

McKinley gets $25,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to meet other Milken educators. Read Pikesville Patch's article "McKinley Broome Wins National Milken Foundation Award."

In addition to her undergraduate training in creative writing and journalism, Ruth is also a registered nurse with more than 25 years of professional experience. She is working on her master's degree in nonfiction writing from Johns Hopkins University.

Goldstein also enjoys vegetarian cooking for her family and friends and is writing a cookbook based on her original recipes and experiences.

Attempted murder suspect

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, Patch's Police Blotter published a report about a man who was shot while getting off a bus Jan. 7.

By the end of the week, the Baltimore County Police ask the public for help finding the suspect.
