People over 74 are the fastest growing group of social media users.

What group of people is discovering Facebook, Twitter and YouTube like they were invented yesterday? According to AllTwitter, a social media blog, it’s people over 74 years old. They’re the fastest growing segment for social media and they’re using the platforms in surprising ways, an inforgraphic from Wishpond, a social media marketing company, shows.

Some of the stats about how Nana and Pop Pop use social media:

  • Your grandparents aren’t the only ones commenting on your pics: 11 percent of Facebook users are seniors.

  • One in five seniors (20 percent) use social gaming. So you know where to go for your next Candy Crush life.

  • Merrill Gardens, a national brand of assisted living facilities, connects with residents and their families on social media. (They even have a Pinterest board for seniors!)

  • AARP has more Facebook likes than AAA. That’s 1,066,907, to be exact.
