Hot Off the Presses: New Books at Baltimore County Public Library

Read a restaurant memoir, escape to New Hampshire, follow the mystery of a missing babysitter, and learn more about the Biblical paradise.

The following new releases are available at the Baltimore County Public Library branches. The descriptions are provided courtesy of BCPL:

"Four Kitchens: My Life Behind the Burner in New York, Hanoi, Tel Aviv and Paris," by Lauren Shockey.

The latest in the popular “restaurant memoir” genre is by a food journalist with a chef’s training. It's mouthwatering armchair travel.

Manhattan lawyer Emily is vaguely dissatisfied with her high-pressure job, her busy husband and her infertility, so she escapes to bucolic New Hampshire for a break and maybe to find herself. It's also available in audiobook, read by Cassandra Campbell.

"In Search of the Rose Notes" by Emily Arsenault

When they were 11 years old, Charlotte and Nora had a babysitter named Rose, who disappeared. Now 16 years later, her body is found and the now-young-women reunite. This book is a mystery and a story of changing friendships.

"Paradise Lust: Searching for the Garden of Eden" by Brook Wilensky-Lanford
Journalist/essayist Wilensky-Lanford profiles many of the scientists, explorers and professors who tried to locate the exact home of the Biblical paradise. Her thorough, if occasionally irreverent, style gives equal weight to the people searching and the reasons behind their search.
