GRAB & GO: A Handy List of Fun Events for Parents, Kids

We've scoured the area to find great activities for kids and their parents. Today, the Pikesville Branch Library offers a jazz and swing performance. We also found a motorcycle show and some nature programs to attend.

Today, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011:

Introduce the kids to at the  at 1 p.m. today. Musician Seth Kibel will perform a variety of tunes by big band legends Duke Ellington and William “Count” Basie. Open to everyone.

On Thursday, Feb. 10, Irvine Nature Center Director of Education Rob Mardiney will continue his ongoing presentation of Wild Kingdom: Behavior & Ecology of Maryland’s Wildlife. Learn all about the state’s animals—their natural history, their diet, where they can be found in nature, how to best see them and more. The discussion runs from 7–8 p.m., and is not intended for small children. Cost: $60 members/$80 non-members. Phone: 443-738-9200.  

Friday, Feb. 11

Pack up the fam and head to the Maryland State Fairgrounds for the Timonium Motorcycle Show. Everyone is welcome. Cost: Adults $15/children 10-15 years $5/children under 10 are free. The show runs from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. on Sunday. The Maryland State Fairgrounds is located at 2200 York Rd, Lutherville Timonium, MD 21093. Saturday, Feb. 12

Show our forest friends how much you care by making them edible ornaments as part of Forest Feeding Time at the Irvine Nature Center. Children ages 5 and older will decorate pinecones with peanut butter, berries, nuts and seeds from 2–3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Cost: Free for members/$10 non-members. Registration is required; please be sure to mention any allergies at that time.

Sunday, Feb. 13

Love is like a bowl of _______. (Fill in the blank with a noun.) Make your own Valentine Mad Libs at the Baltimore Museum of Art this Sunday, Feb. 13. Free Sundays are just that—free. Express your inner artist/comedic writer in a “hands-on” writing session or enjoy an interactive gallery tour. Drop in anytime from 2–5 p.m.
