The White House

The Madison White House burned on Aug. 24, 1814, during the war, the release states.

"Only the outside walls and a 1792 Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington were saved," it states.

"However, some of the original drawings by Latrobe for the Madison White House painted furniture survived ... and will be on display at the Maryland Historical Society for the Feb. 2 lecture."
