After Three Decades, Pikes Theatre Gets Second Act

Renovations are under way to return the old movie house to its roots.

It's reel-y happening.

Movies will play again at Pikes Theatre after almost three decades without its silver screen. The Baltimore Jewish Times reports plans are under way to turn the theater—now the Pikes Diner—back to its former glory.

The paper reports the new theater will have two 25-by-13 foot screens, and each screening room will seat 80. The theater would be open seven days a week and show first-run films.

Pikes told the Times that the new theater could open as soon as July.

“It’s like a godsend because, the fact is, I really can’t think of anything else to create activity down here,” owner Wil Reich told the paper. “I can’t think of anything that would benefit the 900- and 1000-blocks of Reisterstown Road more than this concept.”
