The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Howard and Baltimore counties, effective from 7 p.m. Sunday to 2 p.m. Monday.

The warning calls for 5 to 10 inches of snow, which will start as a rain-snow mix early Sunday evening and change to all snow by late Sunday night.

The heaviest snow will be midnight to Monday morning, the National Weather Service reported, noting that roads will be slippery. Snow will taper off late Monday morning and end sometime by the afternoon, according to the weather service.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous, and people should only travel in an emergency, keeping a flashlight, extra food and ample water in their vehicles if travel is necessary, according to the weather service.
