Graveside Services Not Deterred By Baltimore's Heat Wave

At Pikesville's Druid Ridge Cemetery, several graveside services were held Wednesday despite oppressive heat and humidity.

Death waits for nothing, including the hot, hazy and humid weather of mid-July in Baltimore.

In Pikesville Wednesday, a day in which the heat index was expected to reach 105 degrees, Druid Ridge Cemetery workers toiled under a broiling sun to accommodate several graveside services.

Mourners dressed in heavy suits and other dark clothing brushed aside the weather to mourn loved ones while remembering and celebrating their lives.

Druid Ridge, founded in 1898, is known for its picturesque vistas, abundant flora and fauna and a pond that ducks, geese and swans call home, all of which  contribute to its park-like ambiance.

With family mausoleums, war memorials, unique monuments and statuary and historic graves, the cemetery provides many photographic opportunities while allowing visitors to reflect on the lives and legacies of those no longer with us.
