Five Things to Know Before You Head Out

We've collected useful websites for info on road conditions, power outages and more during this snowy weather—all to help you make the big decision: Should I Drive in to Work?

Before you head to work, check these online tips and tools so you know what to expect along your commute. Keep in mind that the State Highway Administration recommends avoiding driving in wintry conditions:

1. Log onto www.roads.maryland.gov and click the CHART icon for the latest road conditions, live traffic cameras and a variety of traffic and weather information from the SHA.

2. Check whether there's a power outage at your destination. To get a general idea of where power outages are, as well as Baltimore Gas and Electric's restoration efforts and progress, visit bge.com.

3. Find out where Baltimore County snowfighters have been called to clear downed trees. Visit the snowfighters website here.

4. Follow the Maryland State Highway Administration on twitter @MDSHA. And for winter driving tips visit http://roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspx?pageid=242

5. For tips on preparing for winter storms, residents can visit www.mema.state.md.us, click on the "Be Prepared" button on the left side of the screen and click on the "Winter Storms" link. There also are tips for general preparedness that are helpful for any type of emergency.
