Herb Silverman will talk about his life and new memoir Candidate Without a Prayer: Autobiography of a Jewish Atheist in the Bible Belt.

In 1990, Silverman, a long-time math professor at College of Charleston challenged South Carolina's requirement that candidates for office believe in a supreme being.

Silverman was disqualified but seven years later the South Carolina Supreme Court declared the religious test unconstitutional.

Silverman went on to found the Secular Coalition for America.

Herb Silverman will sign copies of his book after his talk.
