A New Pizza Restaurant in Canton: Verde

I had a new restaurant experience this past week. New meaning I visited a restaurant for the first time, and at my house, that's big news. I traveled to Canton, 641 South Montford Street, to be exact, and had dinner at Verde.

That restaurant is new at that location, but it has been the home to two other restaurants I remember, going back about 20 years. Of course that particular building has lots of history, but today I'll be talking only about what's there now.

And what's there is Verde, which opened in early September, serving Neopolitan pizzas. What makes a pizza Neopolitan? Don't know, even though Ed, one of the owners, along with his wife MaryAnn, explained it to me.

I do know the pizzas are cooked in a wood burning oven at 825 degrees and it only takes 90 seconds before those pizzas are done and ready to be delivered to your table. And I also know the flour is imported from Italy as are the tomatoes.

How good are the pizzas, well when I was finished dinner I actually ordered another one, especially when I found out they have chocolate pizzas in the house. I couldn't resist. And nobody was watching.

The restaurant is closed Mondays, serves dinner every night and lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's valet parking on weekends and carry-out.

Later on they'll be adding another room upstairs, Sunday brunch, a new menu and, during the warmer months you can eat outside.

Verde is also participating in Baltimore restaurant week. For more information visit the restaurant's website.

We are going to go there just based on this review. We have been trying, but it is difficult to get good pizza around here.

I guess I should have said good and consistent pizza. We have gone to several places around town and had great pizza only to go back again and it was subpar. As far as the comments "Will Do"!

There are two pizza places at the Quarry ... Pizza Blitz and Illiano's. Have you tried either?

I haven't tried either place. We did eat at the Thai restaurant and that was pretty good.

Eddie, we went to Verde this weekend and I told Ed that your review sent us there. We ordered the Restaurant Week deal and it was really good. The service was good too.
