What could be more fun than to spend the night in your hometown?
Think about it: The drive is short, you know the area and you're close to home. With that in mind, here's a suggestion.
Do an overnight at the Royal Sonesta, formerly the Harbor Court Intercontinental, 550 Light St.
There are 195 rooms, 22 of which are suites. It is now owned by R & R out of Boston.
So far they have upgraded the amenities in the rooms and there are plans to do a more intensive renovation, that includes all guest rooms and public space. But I'll tell you this, the hotel as it stands is very nice. They carry a 4 Diamond rating.
Being located across from Harborplace gives you access to many attractions within walking distance. No hassles about finding a parking place. Once you're in the hotel, you don't have to move the car again until you check out.
Actually you don't have to leave the hotel, as it offers an indoor pool, a spa, fitness center, tennis, a concierge and 24-hour room service. Meeting rooms are also available.
I think I'm correct in saying all rooms face the harbor.
For dining, there's Brightons offering all three meals. The food is good, they use local vendors as much as possible and the philosophy is 'food is art.'
They also are doing smaller portions—a national trend. Next door is the Explorers Lounge, for snacks, drinks and entertainment.
Currently, 20 hotels across the country are being converted to Sonesta. For more information visit the Sonesta website.
