DASH Week

Gerri Chizek of The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew posted three photos of the school's DASH week, held in February 2013.

During the week, titled Days of Arts, Science, and Humanities, students did hands-on activities, all with the theme of "flight."

The entire school, K-8, visited the Aviation Museum at College Park where they took tours and learned about early Jewish pioneers of the air, according to a news release from the school.

At the school's campus in Pikesville, kindergarten and first-grade students had a visit from Troy Marty, air traffic controller, the release states.

They "spent the week learning about planes and all things that fly, as part of their transportation study," it states. And "K-3 students enjoyed a presentation by Jewish author Jacqueline Jules, creator of the ZIZ books."

Other elementary school projects included:

  • Constructing creative flying machines
  • Learning about birds
  • Making paper creations, based on research.
  • Fourth- and fifth-graders combined Sumi paintings with haiku

"This type of  hands-on learning exemplifies the STEM and creative mind curriculum of the new Independent Jewish Academy of Baltimore, a community school which will open in July 2013 on the Day School’s campus," the release states.

The academy recently held Discovery Day on Feb. 10. More than 100 attendees, including parents and children, "participated in SMART Board, Ipad and arts activities while learning about the new school," the release states.

RE: the downed tree. I posted the picture but didn't realize it would be displayed with community events, etc. When I figure out how to post storm pics in a section where people might be looking to see them I will post a few more. MAL
