Baltimore County recommends sheltering in place during the storm, that means staying at home.

But if that's not possible, and you need somewhere to go because of Hurricane Sandy and its effects, here's a list of shelters, provided by Maryland Emergency Management Agency.

On the list are the following, near the Pikesville area:

• Baltimore Jr. Academy 3006 W. Cold Spring, Baltimore City, MD (Pet Friendly)
• Jewish Community Center, 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave, Owings Mills, Md 21117 (Pet Friendly)
• Also, Baltimore County announced it is opening a shelter that accepts pets. It opens at 1 p.m. at Eastern Technical High School.

Winds are strong now, as of 12:34 p.m., but they're going to increase through Monday night, when the forecast calls for gusts of up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
