Snowstorm Could Drop Up to 10 inches in Baltimore Metro Area

As the snowstorm approaches, and the forecast gets more specific, it looks like the Baltimore Metro area could get up to about 8 inches of snow from late Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

However, Owings Mills and Reisterstown could get more, at up to 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather watch, including snow, is in effect for the county, as well as for the Baltimore and D.C. metro areas. During this time, wind gusts could get as high as 35 mph. Combined with heavy snow, there could be power outages, it states.

BGE is bringing in 500 extra employees to help with service repairs and 1,750 of its own crews to be ready in case of "hundreds of thousands of outages in its service area, according to a news release Tuesday.

Rain could begin Tuesday evening in the Baltimore Metro area, changing to snow after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Some areas could get between 1 and 3 inches of rain or snow Tuesday, including Catonsville, Pikesville, Owings Mills, Lutherville-Timonium and Hunt Valley.

But 1-2 inches is forecast Tuesday night for Arbutus, North Baltimore, Parkville, Perry Hall, Essex and Dundalk.

Additional snow is expected Wednesday, mainly at night:

• 3-7 inches: Randallstown, Owings Mills and Reisterstown
• 3-5 inches: Arbutus, Catonsville, Woodlawn, North Baltimore, Pikesville, Towson, Lutherville-Timonium and Hunt Valley
• 1-3 inches: Essex and Dundalk
• 1-2 inches: Parkville and Perry Hall

Some snow could fall Thursday throughout the area as well, but only about 1/10 inch, according to the forecast.

Following are the forecast temperatures for the Baltimore Metro area, as of Tuesday morning:

Tuesday will be in the mid 40s, with a low in the lower 30s.

High Wednesday in the mid-30s, and the low in the lower 30s.

Thursday's high could be in the upper 30s, with the low in the upper 20s.
