(Updated) Three-Car Crash Kills Two in Randallstown Tuesday
Police identified the two victims in Tuesday afternoon's fatal crash.
Update (9:58 p.m.): Baltimore County police have determined the cause of a multi-car collision that left two dead and Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of McDonogh Road and Star Circle in Owings Mills, a police spokesman said.
Investigators concluded that a vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Melvin Bettis III, crossed over the center turn lane into oncoming traffic, collided head-on with another vehicle and then struck a third car, county police said in a press release.
Bettis, of Pikesville, initially struck the sedan of Andre Murphy, 60, also of Pikesville. Both Bettis and Murphy were pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
The driver of the third car, a 33-year-old Owings Mills woman, was not injured when contacted by Bettis' spinning four door sedan, police said.
The crash remains under investigation, but police have said speed is believed to be a factor.
Police and fire crews were dispatched at approximately 2:20 p.m.
The closed lanes of McDonogh Road between Painters Mill and Winands roads were reopened around 7 p.m.
This story was updated at 4:35 p.m. to include the cause of the crash. The headline was also changed to reflect that the accident occurred in Randallstown, not Owings Mills.
