Police Get Warrant in 2010 Pikesville Rape

Baltimore County police: DNA matches Damilola Animashaun who is in custody at Rikers Island in New York.

A man under arrest in New York finds himself charged in a 2010 Pikesville rape.

Damilola Animashaun, 23, is charged with the sexual assault of "a 19-year-old woman in the laundry room of an apartment building," according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Baltimore County Police Department.

The warrant was issued on Aug. 10 but just made public Wednesday, according to the statement.

The warrant will be served when he is released from Rikers Island.

"There is no projected release date at this time,” according to the statement.

Animashaun is accused of following a woman into an apartment building on April 5, 2010 and sexually assaulting her in a laundry room, according to the police statement.

"The victim contacted a friend who took her to an area hospital and called police," it states. "She was transported to GBMC Hospital" where a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination was completed.

The DNA collected from that sample was entered into a national database last June.

Recently, police say they found a match for that sample that came from a recent sex offense in New York City.

"Detectives from the Baltimore County Police Special Victims Unit traveled to New York and got a DNA sample from Animashaun, who is currently detained at Rikers Island," according to the statement.
