Have you heard of the Wild West shows of yesteryear?
Good news. You can catch one nearby at Pimlico Race Course—no time-travel required.
The Great American Frontier Show is one of many free events on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through July 4, at the Pimlico Fair.
The frontier show "features an award-winning horseback rider performing death-defying feats on a galloping horse," a news release states.
Additionally, "an Arabian stallion will walk 60 feet across an arena on his hind legs," and the show will feature a giant horse, along with what the news release bills as the biggest and strongest ox in the world.
Children can visit the free petting zoo and view other animals such as Texas longhorn cattle, a donkey, a buffalo and small horses.
There will be cowboys and cowgirls and a Wolves of the World Show, during which wolves "jump, leap, keep their balance, howl and react when a buffalo is introduced to the pack," the release states.
There's also a vaudeville show, a magic show, a sheep-herding demonstration and amusement rides such as The Orbiter, The Pirate, Alpine Bobs and The Wacky Worm Roller Coaster.
Gates open at 5 p.m. on Fridays and at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on Monday, July 4. The fair closes at midnight.
Admission is $5. For 2-for-1 coupons, a schedule of events, including fireworks on Friday and July 2, more fair events and directions, visit the event website, or call 631-920-2738. The schedule could change due to weather, so call ahead.
The race course is located at 5201 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore.
