UPDATE: Teens Beat Delivery Man for Chinese Food

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

UPDATE (3:02 p.m. Dec. 18)—Four teens jumped a food delivery man from China King, beat him and stole his food.

Between 7-7:16 p.m. Wednesday, the man was making a delivery in the unit block of Quimper Court in Pikesville, when the boys attacked.

The teens, described as between 16-17 years old and black, punched the man's right eye, and searched his pockets for money. However, there was no cash.

They ran to the nearby 7-Eleven and on to the Old Court metro station.

Two suspects were 5-foot 7-inches tall and weighed 130 pounds. The other two were 5-foot 7 inches and weighed 120 pounds. The fourth was 6 feet tall, weighing 130 pounds.

Editor's note: Descriptions of the suspects have been included, marking a change in Patch policy.

Any reason why there is no better description of the "teens"? I mean, those of us who live in the area would like to know.

Patch does not publish the race for suspects, as part of our policy. And police at the precinct redacted the other information. They are four teen boys, each between the ages of 16-17.

The third paragraph:
The teens, described as between 16-17 years old and black, punched the man's right eye, and searched his pockets for money.
So much for Patch policy.

We all know that it's the little jewish boys running wildly through the neighborhood robbing people. Come on Patch just say it in the report as it was reported to you.

Ms. Metzer maybe you have note received the message from above yet. The below message was posted by one of your colleages the other day in the Perry Hall Patch.

This post is being updated to reveal further information about the suspect. Maryland Patch managing editors have update the policy with which our reporters will use race in suspect descriptions.

You guys need to stop the "subtle" racists comments. The media continue to allow you to believe crime is committed mostly by african americans and latinos, when in fact, it's closer to 50% of crimes committed by whites vs. minorities. As a former cop, i know this for a fact.

Relax, Richard. Get a sense of humor. I'm also pretty damn sure it wasn't Jewish boys. committing this crime. Almost never do they cause this kind of trouble, and I think everybody realizes this. I have nothing against Jews and was not insinuating anything negative about them. It called sarcasm. If you follow any readers' comments after the weekly crime blog you will see that the Patch has this ridiculous policy of omitting, from the police report, the race (as described by the victim/ witness ) of the perpetrator and many of the readers then chide the editors about it, though not in this article so much. The Jewish comment was simply to chide them again.

OK, OK.....I'M KIDDING........Hellloooooooo!
I was trying to make light of this no matter how lame. Personally I don't give a damn what color, creed, race or religion a criminal is. A criminal is a criminal....period.
I also despise political correctness, BTW.

Richard, You read a little too much into the article. It doesn't say that the robbers ate the food that was delivered. You saw the Jewish comment and made up stuff in your own mind in a fit of defense. This type of behavior starts rumors more than misunderstood sarcasm does.

The sardonicism used by Chillin was perfectly understood by me and is, or should be, acceptable to readers. However, the race or races or the perpetrator or perpatrators of any crime is important to know--both by the police and the citizens who might be the next victims. That is, if a perpetrator was plainly identified as white, do you want the police to waste time questioning or detaining a black person or an oriental instead, and do you want the citizens to be on the lookout for a nonwhite suspect?

William makes it all clear,,,,,,,,,,, good point Id say,,,,,,but there have been cases where people would object to the racial description when the victim clearly stated and clearly saw the perps face ...........sure its all races commtting crimes , and concerned parent does'nt like the "subtle references", thats too bad......... its our right to express our seleves that way,,,,,,,,,,, and just because you;re a former cop doesnt givew you any more insight..... do you expect us to believe the percentages dont prove out our "subtle references" ? btw id like as a former cop have you ever been to central booking ? sure it reflects the population I understand that

@Richard...I see the little figure of a winking-eyed face at the end of your sentence to indicate your sarcasm. I'm not with the texting computer generation just yet. It became obvious to me all of a sudden when glancing at it again. My bad! Reading it in a different perspective I see the humor. Good one I must say. Can I plagiarize that symbol?

Ms. Metzer, Thanks for looking into my inquiry and updating the story accordingly. It only makes good journalistic sense to relay any credible bits of a news event to your readers as they are presented, rather than try to sway it one way or the other to appease any group of people or for fear of conjuring perceptions to the readers. Most of us are grown enough to form are own thoughts based on what we see and the facts that we read. The Patch will just simply have to deal with any rude comments made by the readers about the race of the suspects. And it is your prerogative to delete them. Of coarse you will feel the wrath for that you, I'm sure. Thanks.
