A male and a female great blue herons are nesting lakeside near Quarry Lake Drive.

Their impressive wingspans have brought several onlookers as well.

To find their nest, visit the low concrete wall across the street from Salon Alpi, and look in the closest, leafless tree for their two nests.

Have you gotten better photos of this pair? My camera doesn't zoom very well, so if you do get one, post it here. As a matter of fact, any nature around the lake, or anywhere in Pikesville is welcome.

Beth, you should go see this, mainly because you can see the entire nest, and when they fly, wow! They are huge! I saw the male feeding some chicks yesterday as well. Wonder if anyone has a count of how many there are?

First time I ever saw a Blue Heron is while I was living in Florida. They are amazing birds! I will be checking them out! Thanks Janet!

You're welcome Cheryl. If you're lucky, you'll see them fly. They're about 4 feet long, with a wingspan of up to 6 feet or so. Amazing.

Thanks, Jeannie Sener, for sending in more photos of our pair of great blue herons at Quarry Lake. Ms. Sener took photos Thursday morning of them flying and hunting lakeside.
