UPDATE: Hundreds Gather for Early Voting at Randallstown Community Center
The line doubled-up in front of the center and wended into the Home Depot parking lot Saturday, but because of the approach of Hurricane Sandy, early voting on Monday and Tuesday were canceled, but hours have been extended, and Friday has been added.
UPDATE (7:25 p.m. Nov. 2)—Penny Gibson looked toward the Randallstown Community Center, and the hundreds of voters lined up, and knew that she had a long wait ahead of her.
But she was determined and stay Saturday for early voting. And she saw the turnout as a positive.
"It's a good sign, people getting out to vote," she said.
Throughout the day, the line of hundreds of voters remained long, doubling up and extending, often, into the Home Depot parking lot next door.
It was the first day of early voting, and at 3505 Resource Drive, voters waiting for their turn were treated to pleasant weather.
"It's not raining," said Alphonso Neal of Woodlawn, who said he waited in the early voting line "to avoid another long line" in the future.
"I'm excited to see so many people on a lovely day," he said after spending 55 minutes in line. He said he expected to wait another hour before he and his family got to vote inside.
Tierra Dorsey, who is a former resident of Pikesville now residing in Reisterstown, said she and her husband, Alex, consider it their civic duty to vote.
"We have busy schedules and I don't want to run the risk of not being able to be here on the 6th," she said, referring to Election Day Nov. 6.
Early voting was canceled Monday and Tuesday Hurricane Sandy's arrival, and has been extended through Friday, Nov. 2.
