My father always sent me a Valentines Day card with a $10.00 bill inside, one year I got the card and the envelope was resealed. When I opened the card the money was still inside but folded up and you could see on the card were it had been taped. I found out that and employee shoved the money back in the card real quick when he was in the process of stealing it because he didn't want to get caught. Sending cash through the mail is not a good idea but those ten dollar bills mean a lot to me especially now that my Dad is in Heaven and can't send me a Valentines Day card.

My father sends a big package from FL for Christmas, his presnts were inside but there were 16 gift cards inside an envelope for all the kids that were missing when we opened the package. Some jerk ruined their Christmas.

This brings out all the comments about how the Post Office ruined someone's holiday, wedding,etc. But none of the stories of how the Post Office made someones day with a card or a package. This employee was the very rare exception to the rule that the majority of Postal employees care about their jobs and do realize how much those personal mail pieces mean to people.

I ordered an iPod Touch a few years ago, for my husband's birthday. An empty box was delivered by the USPS. You could see where the box had been tampered with. You could see the actual imprint of the article on the packing slip, inside of the box. When I called to file a complaint, I was met with rudeness and arrogance from the local USPS location. I was told that postal employees simply do not steal. Yeah, right! I could list several other incidents as well. I now only use the services of the USPS in cases where there is no alternative. I pay all bills online or by phone. And, I haven't bought a stamp in more than a year. I simply won't patronize businesses that offer shoddy service. Voting with our pocketbooks is just about the only voice we have left.

I totally agree with you Grace. It seems you can't trust anyone anymore. Especially the government.

Thieves are thieves regardless of employment. Just so happen she worked at the post office. To some degree that's wonderful because she commuted a federal crime. The crime will not be looked at lightly, it's a matter of trust.

I mailed a Ravens sweatshirt from Halethorpe to Frederick last year. It never arrived. When my husband and I tried to find out what happened to it, no one at the post office in halethorpe or at the main office downtown would tell us any thing about how far it had been tracked in the system or refund the postage we paid to mail it because, they said, we had not purchased insurance. We were not asking for them to pay us back for the value of the merchandise, just the $8.00 we paid in shipping. I don't understand why we would have to pay insurance to be reimbursed for shipping if they never deliver the package. Obviously they lost it or someone in the system stole it. If the $8.00 shipping I paid does not obligate them to actually deliver the package (or refund the shipping for services not rendered as agreed), then what the heck does that $8.00 actually buy me? Just their promise to MAYBE deliver it? If I am lucky? We were so angry at the way we were treated we switched to UPS for our eBay shipping.
